Post Graduate School, University of Jos, is providing a Masters course in Conservation Biology based within the Department of Zoology. This course examines the economic, social and ecological issues at stake in the conservation of biodiversity; the scientific theoretical basis of conservation; field, laboratory and statistical methods employed in the field of conservation; with a special focus on ornithology. Teaching is based at the A.P. Leventis Ornithological Research Institute on the outskirts of Jos, and the Department of Zoology, University of Jos. The course comprises taught modules and a research project and has a strong emphasis on fieldwork. From the autumn of 2004 there is also a PhD programme involving 2-3 students.
