Changes in land use and a growing human population have resulted in increasing pressures on West African biomes in the past few decades. APLORI seeks to address these issues by ensuring that conservation forms an integral part of its programme of research and education. The aim is to provide knowledge on the current status of biodiversity in the different regions of Nigeria; to understand the processes involved; and to suggest management approaches that promote sustainable land use and biodiversity in the region.
